Formal Dinner Re-Imagined
Each academic year, the GCR works closely with the college operations, dining, and stewardship teams to deliver the most celebrated Oxford tradition—the formal dinners. In addition to weekly home formals, our students can also enjoy up to 4-5 exchange formals with other Oxford and Cambridge colleges during term time. Beginning October 2025, the GCR is working with the college to overhaul the formal dinner experience, including price reduction for both students and guests, improved food quality, and complementary wine services.
Members of the college and guests arrive in style, usually 30 to 45 minutes before dinner, to enjoy a glass of prosecco or other non-alcoholic beverages in the Combined Common Room (CCR). Exchange dinner members from other colleges are invited to a guided tour of the college by a committee member.
Arrival/Pre-Dinner Reception
Once the dinner announcement is made, members are invited to migrate to the Wahba Dining Hall. The formal dinner experience includes a 3-course dinner with various dietary options (must indicate in advance) and complementary wine service. As a part of the St. Antony's tradition, the GCR President or an invited speaker will address attendees at the end of the dinner services.
Formal Dinner
Upon the conclusion of the dinner services, guests are invited to the Antidote, the college bar, for an after-party. The GCR Social Committee often hosts themed afterparties and events, such as karaoke and silent disco, with rotation from all the local DJs spinning the tunes.

Special Themed Formals

Not all formals are the same! During certain seasons of the year, our GCR committees occasionally host themed dinners or afterparties to celebrate unique Oxford holidays and milestones.
In addition, our GCR Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee hosts special themed formals once per term. Our committee tends to host a Black, Asian, and minority ethnic (BAME) formal in Michaelmas Term, a Women Inclusive (WomenX) formal in Hilary Term, and a Queer formal in Trinity Term.
